Around & About

Wentworth House is ideally situated for touring the beautiful countryside of East Yorkshire and the coast, with all its seaside towns and harbours.

Whilst staying in the area why not take advantage of the beautiful countryside walks, discovering nature. For the angler there is a wealth of sea and lake fishing. Also within easy reach are many interesting historic towns, churches and stately houses, such as Burton Constable, Burton Agnes, Hedon, Patrington and Beverley Churches.

Visit Hornsea Mere and discover the wildlife at Yorkshire's largest freshwater lake. For the shopper, the Freeport Outlet in the town of Hornsea has a vast range of clothing and gift shops. There are also numerous golf courses just a short drive away. We organise a number of themed breaks. These can be combined so partners can enjoy their individual pastime during the day and meet up later for the après events in the evening

Angling Times

Close to the Hotel are a wide variety of angling locations.

We can arrange transport if required and can supply your bait requirements given prior notice. Most of the day ticket waters charge £4.00 and offer concessions. Many also provide opportunities for night fishing, in which case you will not need to stay at the Hotel!

We can provide a programme of venues to suit your requirements, or, at the very least, directions on how to find the more obscure spots.

Art Focus

South of the Hotel the landscape is flat; North and East the big skies and massive beaches give way to the romantic scenery that are the Yorkshire Wolds, Moors and Dales.

The dramatic skies blend with a host of rural and commercial landscapes to provide many opportunities for the Artist.

The Stately homes of Burton Agnes and Burton Constable are very close for those wishing to practice architectural painting.

The beaches provide ever changing opportunities to paint the most rapidly eroding piece of coastline in the country.

New Developments

Wentworth House meets the needs of two main markets: Business and Interest Groups.

For the business traveller we are investing in presentation equipment, office facilities  and out of hours relaxation facilities such as a small gym and table tennis.

Interest groups are catered for through the hire of some equipment, such as bicycles. We can also arrange for local speakers to talk on issues of local interest such as Geology, Ornithology and Art.

We are improving the facilities for disabled guests and should have some time next year a downstairs bedroom available for guests with mobility problems.

General maintenance improvement include tiling in the main reception area and behind the scenes alternations to improve the operational effectiveness of the Hotel.

Village Life

The village has a peaceful rural atmosphere, surrounded by open fields, the Parish of Aldbrough covers an area some 5,500 acres, predominantly agricultural land.  The present day village is expanding and thriving, with a population of about 1,200 (source 1991). The heart of the village lies one mile from the sea, with sheltered beaches, though access can be limited due to continued coastal erosion.  Views form the cliff tops on a clear day stretch as far as Flamborough lighthouse to the north and Withernsea to the south.

The village of Aldbrough is served by a range of local shops and businesses, and has a thriving primary school, and modern sports hall.

The church of St. Bartholomew is built mainly in the Norman style with evidence of Saxon architecture.  Inside it can boast the tomb of Sir John de Melsa, a 6’ 6” warrior of great note, and governor of York from 1292-1296.
